DODO Electrifies the Classic CG125 Platform, Now Shipping to Africa and South Africa
DODO has converted the time-tested fuel-powered CG125 motorcycle platform into a battery-electric version, with the first units now being prepared for export to African and South African markets.
The CG125-style platform is one of the most recognizable and widely used commuter motorcycles across Africa — valued for its simple steel frame, easy repair, strong parts supply and low running cost. DODO keeps the familiar bodywork, telescopic front fork, twin rear shocks and spoke-style wheels, and replaces the internal-combustion engine with a sealed hub motor and a swappable lithium battery pack mounted where the fuel tank used to be.
The result looks and handles like the bike African riders already know, but with zero engine noise, no fuel system, and far fewer wearing parts. Front disc brake, rear drum, long-travel suspension and a rear cargo rack are retained to match real road conditions — from city commutes to unpaved rural roads.
"The African market doesn't need a completely new shape — it needs the bike people already trust, running on electricity," said a DODO product manager. "We kept the frame, the ergonomics and the parts network familiar, and focused engineering on the electric powertrain, battery safety and low-maintenance design."
DODO is now accepting orders from distributors across Africa and South Africa, with CKD and SKD packaging options to support local assembly. The company plans to roll out electric versions of two more classic commuter platforms by the end of the year.
